  4. DESCRIPTION
  5.  
  6.    Seascape (TM) is a screen saver which displays relatively
  7.    realistic fish (Indo-Pacific Sergeants) and tiny animals
  8.    (microdes) on which they feed.  Produced by a member of the
  9.    Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP), Seascape
  10.    requires Microsoft Windows 3.1 and at least a 386 with 4 Mb
  11.    of RAM.  Seascape works with the Windows built-in screen saver
  12.    subsystem, so for configuration, viewing the documentation,
  13.    or exploring other options, access the Control Panel (from
  14.    Main), choose Desktop, and then choose Setup (with Seascape
  15.    selected as the current screen saver).

  18. SEASCAPE LICENSE AGREEMENT

  20.    This software product is copyrighted, and all rights are reserved
  21.    by the author and publisher.

  23.    Installation and use of Seascape requires that you agree to the
  24.    following conditions:

  26.      Trying out Seascape is free, but for continued use registration
  27.      is required.  Registration of a single copy of Seascape permits
  28.      you to use it on a single computer, except that if you use one
  29.      PC at work and another at home, or both a desktop PC and a
  30.      portable PC, you may use Seascape on both (or even all three)
  31.      with a single registration.

  33.      You are invited to make unregistered copies of Seascape for
  34.      your friends.  All copies must contain the unaltered complete
  35.      set of files generated by selecting "Make a Copy" as described
  36.      below (or, if you prefer, by using "diskcopy" to duplicate your
  37.      unaltered installation disk).

  39.      Commercial users of Seascape must register and pay for their
  40.      copies of Seascape within 120 days of first use or their license
  41.      is withdrawn.  Site License arrangements may be made by con-

  66.    For continued use of Seascape, registration is required.

  68.    Your registration fee will help finance improvement of Seascape,
  69.    and as a registered user you will be entitled to a $10 discount
  70.    on registration of our next major release.

  72.    When you're ready to register (or if you just want more
  73.    details), select "Register or Order..." in Seascape's
  74.    Setup dialog box.

  80. HOW TO MAKE AN UNREGISTERED COPY OF SEASCAPE
  81.  
  82.    1.  Insert a blank formatted diskette in a suitable drive.
  83.  
  84.    2.  Select "Make a Copy" in the Seascape Setup dialog.  (To get
  85.        to the Seascape Setup dialog, open the Control Panel from
  86.        Main in Program Manager, double click on Desktop, make sure
  87.        Seascape is shown as the name of your current Screen Saver,
  88.        and click on Setup.)

  90.    3.  When production of the copy is complete, please put a
  91.        label on the diskette with instructions, such as:

  96.                In the Windows 3.1 Program Manager:
  97.                1. Select "File".
  98.                2. Select "Run".
  99.                3. Type "A:SeaNstal" (or "B:SeaNstal").

  108. USING SEASCAPE
  109.  
  110.    Since Seascape is integrated with the Microsoft Screen Saver
  111.    utility, it is accessed by activating the Control Panel (from
  112.    the Program Manager's "Main" window), choosing "Desktop" to
  113.    open the Desktop dialog box, and then selecting "Seascape" on
  114.    the Screen Saver Name list.
  115.  
  116.    Features such as changing the Delay (between the end of user
  117.    activity and start-up of the screen saver) and setting a
  118.    password are precisely the same for Seascape as for Microsoft-
  119.    supplied screen savers.  To set the Delay, click on the little
  120.    up and down triangles to the right of "Delay:" in the Desktop
  121.    dialog box.  To try out the currently selected screen saver,
  122.    click on the "Test" button in the Desktop dialog box.

  124.    Additional Seascape options, including password setting, are
  125.    accessed by clicking on "Setup..." in the Desktop dialog box
  126.    (with "Seascape" showing in the Screen Saver Name field).

  129. HOW TO RUN SEASCAPE FROM AN ICON
  130.  
  131.    To set up an icon from which you can start Seascape, first
  132.    click on the program group in which you want the icon to
  133.    appear (e.g. Games) to make it active.  Then in the Program
  134.    Manager select File, choose New, make sure Program Item
  135.    is selected, and click on OK.  For Description, enter
  136.    Seascape.  For Command Line enter SSCSCAPE.SCR   /S.
  137.    For Working Directory, enter the path of your main Windows
  138.    directory, e.g. C:\WINDOWS.  Then click on OK.

  141. HOW TO PRINT THIS DOCUMENTATION
  142.  
  143.    This documentation is contained in SEAS_DOC.TXT, located on
  144.    your installation diskette (if you have one) and, following
  145.    installation, in the SEASCAPE subdirectory of your Windows
  146.    startup directory (typically C:\WINDOWS\SEASCAPE).  Should
  147.    you want a hard copy, it can easily be printed with Notepad.
  148.    (From Program Manager, open Accessories, double click on
  149.    Notepad, click on File, click on Open, move to the right
  150.    directory, e.g. C:\WINDOWS\SEASCAPE, select seas_doc.txt,
  151.    click on File, and click on Print.)

  168.    the registree's name in your order.)

  170.    For an order including a diskette or diskettes, please add $3.00
  171.    for shipping and handling.  If no diskette size is specified,
  172.    Seascape will be sent on a 3.5" diskette.

  174.    If you have a printer, simply fill out and print the Registration
  175.    and Order Form, accessed by clicking on "Setup..." in the Desktop
  176.    dialog box (with "Seascape" showing as the Screen Saver Name),
  177.    then selecting "Register or Order...", and finally selecting
  178.    "Registration and Order Form".

  181.    with a check for the proper amount and your return address, to

  188.    If you are ordering from outside the United States, please
  189.    send a check in your local currency for an amount
  190.    equivalent to the U.S. dollar price, or an international
  191.    money order, or a check for U.S. dollars payable through a
  192.    bank in the U.S., or cash.  Note that foreign checks for
  193.    U.S. dollar amounts are generally not acceptable, since
  194.    they must be sent for international collection at a cost of
  195.    $55.00 each.

  198. INSTALLATION
  199.  
  200.    1. From the Windows 3.1 (or later) program manager menu bar
  201.       select "File".
  202.  
  203.    2. Select "Run...".
  204.  
  205.    3. If you're installing from a diskette, insert your Seascape
  206.       diskette into drive A or B.  Then enter A:SeaNstal in the
  207.       Command Line field (or B:SeaNstal if you're using drive B)
  208.       and select OK.
  209.  
  210.       If you're installing after downloading Seascape to your hard
  211.       disk, you have probably already extracted files, e.g. with
  212.       PKUNZIP SEAS17.ZIP; if not, do so now.  Then enter
  213.       <PATH>\SeaNstal in the Command Line field, where <PATH> is
  214.       the path of the directory containing your Seascape files
  215.       (for instance, C:\INBOX\SEASCAPE\SeaNstal if they're in
  216.       C:\INBOX\SEASCAPE), and select OK.
  217.  
  218.    4. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.
  219.       When asked to confirm that you want to install Seascape
  220.       in your Windows startup directory, select OK.  (Since this
  221.       is the directory in which the Control Panel's Screen Saver
  222.       utility searches for screen savers, it's the only
  223.       correct place to install Seascape.)

  225.    Note:  If you have an earlier version of Seascape, simply
  226.    follow the instructions above to replace it with this version.
  227.    If your earlier version was registered, you can activate
  228.    registration for this version by re-entering your existing
  229.    registration key.

  232. UNINSTALLATION
  233.  
  234.    Should you wish to remove Seascape from your computer,
  235.    go to your windows startup directory (typically C:\WINDOWS)
  236.    and issue the following commands.
  237.  
  238.       del sscscape.scr
  239.       del seascape\*.*
  240.       rmdir seascape
  241.    
  242.    If you wish, then delete the "[ScreenSaver.Seascape]" section
  243.    in control.ini (in your windows startup directory, typically
  244.    C:\WINDOWS).  (This section, created by use of the Seascape
  245.    Setup dialog, stores about 65 bytes of configuration data,
  246.    such as your preferred number of fish.)

  279. SHAREWARE DISTRIBUTOR AND BBS INFORMATION

  281.    All copies distributed must include the complete set of
  282.    Seascape files without alteration.  (For a list of the
  283.    files, see below.)

  285.    Distributors should make clear that Seascape is shareware.
  286.    Distribution of Seascape in any manner that conceals the
  287.    fact that Seascape is shareware or discourages users from
  288.    registering is prohibited.

  290.    If Seascape is compressed into a single file with a
  291.    utility such as PKZIP or LHA, the distributed file
  292.    should have a name which makes it readily recognizable
  293.    as Seascape and if possible makes clear the version.
  294.    The preferred name for zipped Seascape 1.7 is SEAS17.ZIP.

  296.    Provided the above conditions are satisfied, vendors of
  297.    shareware on diskettes or CD-ROMs, bulletin board
  298.    operators, and user groups are permitted to distribute
  299.    unregistered copies of Seascape 1.7 and to make

  301.    Notification to Advanced Computer Tektonics is welcome,

  304.    No other commercial distribution of Seascape is permitted
  305.    without prior written permission from Advanced Computer

  369. RELEASE NUMBERING AND NEW RELEASE NOTIFICATION

  371.  Minor ("dot") releases contain incremental improvements that
  372.  will make little if any difference to most users.  In general,
  373.  upgrading to the latest dot release is worthwhile only in the
  374.  unlikely event that a problem is encountered with use of an
  375.  earlier version, and in such cases we will gladly send an
  376.  update when notified of the problem.

  378.  Major releases contain significant, obvious improvements;
  379.  for example, Seascape 2.0 will feature Regal Angelfish in
  380.  addition to the current Indo-Pacific Sergeants.  As soon as
  381.  practical after a new major release is ready, we will notify
  382.  all registered users of versions of the previous major release.
